Arctic Tundra- A tundra that is found at high latitudes, below the equator it is known as Antarctic tundra.
Biome- A complex biotic community characterized by distinctive plant and animal species and maintained under the climatic conditions of the region. Such a community that has developed to climax.
Consumer- An biotic factor that moves around to look for food. It eats plants or animals because it cannot make its own food.
Global Warming- An increase in the earth's average atmospheric temperature that causes corresponding changes in climate and that may result from the greenhouse effect.
Permafrost- Permanently frozen subsoil
Producer- Plants are producers because they make their own food. They use the sun's energy to make their own food and that is called photosynthesis. The water and nutrients that are in the soil are used for creating energy for the plant.
Tundra- A cold, treeless, usually lowland area of far northern regions. The lower level of soil of tundra are permanently frozen, but in summer the top layer of soil thaws and can support low-growing mosses, lichens, grasses, and small shrubs.
